Manufactureres & Distributors
The SMDA, or Security Manufacturers and Distributors Association, was formed in January 2005 to represent the particular interests of its members in view of the impending new situation in the industry with the advent of Licensing of intruder alarm installers from August 2006.

It was felt that none of the existing Trade Associations were suited to representing or appreciating the particular threat that licensing of installers posed for those who supplied the industry should there be a limited take-up of the licences, nor of understanding the danger of increased off-shore competition for local distributors.
